Nirvana

Role: Design & Animation  Year: 2018

Nirvana is a manifesto of mindfulness, made with Rasita Kartarahardja. We get so caught up in doing that we forget the small moments, and how to have fun. The piece dives into the subconscious: drop the labels, let thoughts flow, close your eyes and wake up to the present.

Creative Treatment

First Concept: Manifesto of Creativity

We first read the prompt “Manifesto” as a celebration of creative individuality and fun in the process, pairing dance (visual rhythm) with abstraction across a broad range of styles. These were our first style frames, but the direction didn’t satisfy us.

Rerouting to Nirvana: Manifesto of Mindfulness

We killed the idea and started over, drawing on Buddhism, mandalas and geometry. We were also discovering Red Giant’s Trapcode Particular, Form and Starglow, and explored with them alongside Cinema 4D and After Effects until the piece found its shape.

Animation

Pattern Generation Exploration

Ring Tunnels

The first two scenes come from the same Cinema 4D loop: a glow effect gives the opening its carousel of blown-out color, and Red Giant’s Starglow turns the next one into a geometric tunnel.

Stargate

Flower of Life

Rasita built the infinite flower in Cinema 4D with Cloner, Bend, cloth simulation and Turbulence.
